Puppies Available Puppies For Sale Bunny and Buckaroo puppies were born February 17th. We have one male and four females! Three of the females are stumpy tailed Labrador Retrievers. They will be ready to go to new homes after April 10th, 2010. They are available for $400.00. How the Stumpy Tailed Labrador Retriever came about ... Bunny is a puppy from our Fancy and Junior litter in spring 2007. She was the only stumpy tailed Lab in the litter and the vet said her tail was most likely not developed because the umbilical cord was wrapped around it during development. This sounded logical and no other questions were asked about it. Junior and Fancy has had three other litters and no other litters produced tail-less Labs. We decided to keep her because of her unique lack of a tail and we named her Bunny. The lack of a tail didn't make her any less a Lab and she was bred this spring to Buckaroo, another yellow Lab. We expected an all yellow litter, but we certainly didn't expect puppies born without tails. This is a very rare mutation that does occur in other breeds like the stumpy tailed cattle dog, corgies and sheep dogs. Many other breeds have their tails docked when they are puppies and are not all born without a tail. Breeders are now deciding not to dock tails on puppies born with tails due to it being a less popular procedure. The gene for tail-less dogs turns out to be a dominant gene when present and will produce a 50% chance for tail-less puppies when bred to a tail dog. Even when two tail-less dogs are bred, there is still a 50% chance of tail-less puppies. I am still trying to find information on this and it has not been easy since apparently this is not very common. Whether Stump Tailed Labrador Retrievers will be well received by the public remains to be seen. I see it as something new and different. Bunny doesn't know she doesn't have a tail and she is still a Lab. We don't have to worry about her clearing off the coffee table with her tail or whacking you in the face with it when getting Lab kisses ... lol. She can still run and swim with the rest of the pack and still tries to wag the tail not there when she is communicating. We also have some older puppies from out Spring 2009 Litter. We have three chocolate males out of Dixie and Duke. They are available for $200.00. Puppy pictures: Click on Thumbnail to see full size picture, then click Back to return to this page.
